Our Philosophy

You Do Not Have to Be the Biggest, To Be the Best

SL Plastics was founded in 1991 by Spencer Leaver to fill a niche in the market for engineering plastics, particularly for packaging equipment and conveyor systems. Our philosophy has remained unchanged ever since, and is reflected in how we win our customers’ long-term loyalty: many of those who joined us 30+ years ago are still with us today.

All our clients benefit from specialist plastics knowledge, expertise and commitment as we continue to grow on the principle of best value, lowest cost, and the most reliable plastic supply available in the UK today.

Our Journey

Three Decades of Growth

A timeline of the milestones that shaped SL Plastics into the UK conveyor parts company it is today.

1991

The Founding of SL Plastics

Spencer Leaver formed SL Plastics in 1991 from a small Suffolk workshop to fill a gap in the market for engineering plastics, particularly for the packaging equipment and conveyor industries. From day one the principle was simple: best value, lowest cost, with the most reliable supply.

Many of the customers who joined us in those early years are still with us today, three decades on, which we consider the highest possible endorsement of the way we work.

Becoming a True 'One Stop Shop'

In 2013 we became a UK distributor of premium conveyor components, extending the quality and reliability of our service so that customers could source both bought-out and machined components from a single supplier.

Increasing stock levels to work with each customer individually, we focused on providing parts off-the-shelf rather than with lengthy lead times, complementing our own production methods and CNC machining capabilities.

50% Growth Through Investment

Having seen growth of over 50% in our financial year, achieved through strong investment in our factory, equipment, staff and supply chains, we cemented our market presence through a commitment to each account: the best service from quote to delivery, competitive prices and consistent quality.

Where competitors say “it cannot be done that quickly”, we ask “when do you really need these parts? We will find a way to get them done.” That mindset has driven every year since.

UK Stockholding Expansion

Continued investment in our UK warehousing allowed us to significantly expand the array of conveyor chains, belts and components held in stock for our growing customer base.

New product lines opened up applications in spiral conveyor systems, hygienic food belts and other specialist markets, cementing our position as one of the largest UK suppliers of quality, tried and tested conveyor components.

Appointed Movex UK Preferred Partner

A new chapter for SL Plastics. Following an in-depth visit to the Movex factory in Bergamo, Italy, where Spencer and Euan Leaver met the Movex team and saw the quality of products, innovation and management first-hand, we are proud to be appointed as Movex’s UK Preferred Partner, Stockist and Supplier.

The partnership brings the full Movex range to the UK market: conveyor chains, belts and components serving the beverage and packaging industries we have always supported, plus the hygienic food belt market through the Movex Blueline series. Together with our continued investment in UK stockholding, in-house CNC machining and 30+ years of conveyor specialist expertise, we are excited to deliver an even stronger one-stop shop for British manufacturers.
